Just watched part 1 of the 3-part series "Torka aldrig tårar utan handskar" by Jonas Gardell about HIV/Aids amongst gay men in Stockholm in the 1980's and realize... I've never quite fully understood how close this is to me and how terribly unfair beyond belief it was - to FINALLY be able to be open and free and love and than just die amongst heaps of scorne and pain. And I understand now more than ever Diamanda Galas's work and why it was and still is so important. It gave and gives relief, an outlet, to mourn, to rage, to deal, to heal - to those who needed it the most... And it politicized these emotions. And on the small scale - it is keeping me from drowning in my own tears tonight. Tomorrow we will scream louder than ever against another part of this system that is so connected to all that robs us of being human beings.
